Brandon Weatherz: Quieting down for now

March 28: Quieting down for now

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

The large weather system that began influencing our weather on Sunday is finally loosening its grip on us. This morning features a few snow showers near the tip of the Arrowhead and along the South Shore, then we’ll dry out this afternoon with partly to mostly sunny skies and a breezy west wind. Temps will still be cooler than average, but we’ll trend warmer with highs in low to upper 30s. However, it’ll get colder yet tonight with clear skies. Most areas fall into single digits and the cool pockets of northern Minnesota could dip below zero. The best chance to stay in the teens will be immediately near the shores of Lake Superior.

Shoreline communities become the cool spots during the day as a breezy east wind develops and keeps temps here in low to mid-30s. Highs inland range from mid-30s to low 40s looking from north to south. Snow builds into north central Minnesota late Friday afternoon. This round of precip will move west to east Friday evening into Saturday morning with rain in the mix for parts of east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Accumulation of 1-3″ is possible for much of northern Minnesota, generally north of U.S. Hwy 2. That puts the Twin Ports on the southern fringe of that chance.

Snow tapers off to the east Saturday morning, and then a quiet Easter weekend cooperates nicely with travel. Skies will be mostly cloudy both Saturday and Sunday and temps gradually trend warmer with most areas returning to low 40s by Sunday.
