Justin Liles: Huge changes coming in the next 24-36 hours

February 26th: Winter coming back

Winter coming back

Today temperatures were 25°F above average to start off our Monday. However, big changes big tonight. It’s going to feel like we go from summer to winter in a matter of 12-48 hrs. A heavy narrow band of snow is likely tonight through north-central Minnesota. The highest snowfall totals will likely be Koochiching County where a Winter Storm Warning is effect from 3am to 3pm Tuesday. This narrow band of snow passing through Koochiching County could produce as much as 3-7” of snow. Snow should diminish in these areas by Tuesday afternoon.

Winds will pick up by Tuesday afternoon too. By Tuesday night into Wednesday morning the snow then shifts to the south shore. All areas in the high terrain east of Ashland could see 4-8” of snow as well. During this time all our area will see much colder air returning to the Northland. Wind chill values will drop 15-30 below Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with the coldest air over Northern Minnesota. Don’t be surprised to see a Wind Chill Advisory Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. These cold conditions won’t last long as we again climb to near 50°F by Friday.
