Justin Liles: Cold tonight, warmer by Friday

February 28th: Cold tonight

Cold tonight

Today was our weekend reminder that it’s still February and it’s still winter. Temperatures were well below average by nearly 15° to 20°F. It didn’t help winds were still blustery which caused wind chill values to feel below zero all day long. Tonight, we are expecting another cold night as temperature drop below the donut. With southerly winds some light lake effect snow is possible along the north shore near Tofte.

Temperature will warm up through the rest of the week and we’ll likely reach the 50s all over the region. As we get into the weekend the milder weather will likely continue. By Sunday, many areas of the Northland away from the lake may see mid to upper 50s. The shoreline communities will be cooler as winds look to be off the lake. There is a chance fog will develop near Lake Superior. This would keep most of the shoreline in the higher terrain in the 40s. Next to the lake we may see 30s. A mix is possible up north Saturday night into Sunday. Sunday looks like rain all over the region. Sunday night into Monday this rain will turn into snow. Not much accumulation is expected.
