Justin Liles: April like weather to stick around

February 5th: Warmth Continue

Warmth Continue

It’s February 5th, right? What is typically the time of year we see some of our coldest air, this year is completely different. Our temperatures are more in line with mid-April than early February. Many places around the region climbed well into the upper 40s and lower 50s. This was nearly 30° above average. Duluth hit 50° on top of the hill and was only 2° from tying a record high. These mild conditions will likely stay this way most of the week. Low to mid-40s are likely through Thursday.

Beginning Wednesday night, a cold front will begin to roll through the region. We’re likely to see mostly rain late Wednesday into Friday morning. Freezing rain could become a problem in some parts of the region Thursday night into Friday morning. However, Friday night into Saturday morning be much worse. We will continue to monitor the developments of this passing system by the end of the week.

Temperatures do look too cool down a little over the weekend but are still going to be some 10°-15° above average. Overnight lows will likely stay in the 20s over the next week. Periods of fog will be likely on and off through the weekend too.
