Our Friday begins slick as temperatures fall below freezing. Wet areas from yesterday’s rain may be icy, and a thin coating of snow on top of any ice will add to slippery conditions. Be careful on sidewalks and roads this morning. Scattered snow showers exit to the northeast through the morning, then additional areas of light snow work back into northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin behind a second cold front this evening and overnight. The South Shore will be the last to see the snow taper off early Saturday morning. Localized South Shore communities may see a little over an inch, and the rest of the Northland stays under an inch of snow from this round.

High temperatures for the day were already set around midnight when it was still 37° in Duluth. Temps then tumble this morning and hold rather steady today with daytime highs staying in mid-20s to mid-30s. We’re now done with the unseasonable warmth of 40s and 50s in the region that have persisted each day all week. The cooler air is ushered in on a breezy west wind sustained around 15 mph today. Tonight will see lows into teens to mid-20s with cloudy skies.

Saturday is cooler and breezy with a mix of clouds and sun. Highs stay in mid-20s to low 30s. Northwest winds will be around 10 to 15 mph. Most areas dip into the teens Saturday night. Sunday is mostly cloudy with mid-20s to mid-30s and a chance for flurries. Temps remain on the warm side of average next week with a few slight chances for light snow here and there, but no confidence in widespread accumulation as of this morning.
