Brandon Weatherz: Gloomy start to the week

April 8: Gloomy start to the week

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

We begin the week with some needed moisture, but unfortunately the accompanying overcast skies will prevent anyone in the Northland from glimpsing the eclipse today. A low pressure system crosses from southern Minnesota northward toward the Canadian border through the day, keeping the need for a rain jacket or umbrella with scattered light to moderate showers today and tonight. Highs manage low to upper 40s, and we’ll once again stay in upper 30s immediately near Lake Superior due to a breezy east wind.

Winds shift out of the west by tomorrow once we find ourselves south of the departing low pressure system, allowing even shoreline areas to enjoy a return to 50s. Skies will still be cloudy Tuesday with a passing sprinkle possible, but we shouldn’t see much in terms of measurable rain as a region. Additional rain accumulation through today and tonight will generally be between 0.1″ and 0.5″, with up to 0.75″ along the North Shore due to terrain enhancement.

Wednesday is warmer yet with widespread highs in the 60s. Scattered showers will arrive from the west across northern Minnesota in the afternoon, and a few thunderstorms and maybe even some small hail is also possible. Rain showers linger in the region on Thursday, then a dry and warm stretch starts Friday. It looks to be another weekend with an east wind keeping cooler conditions along the shorelines of Lake Superior, but the rest of the region should see plenty of 60s both Saturday and Sunday.
