Brandon Weatherz: Chilly Friday with snow showers

April 19: Chilly Friday with snow showers

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

Our Friday starts off with temps in upper 20s to mid-30s, a breezy west wind, and areas of light snow. Break the thicker coat, hat, and gloves back out today as highs stay in mid-30s to low 40s and winds pick up near 20 mph. Sporadic snow showers will continue through the day, becoming most widespread through the afternoon and into the evening. Some more intense snow bursts may bring moments of poor visibility, but nothing should stick on the pavement.

Snow showers become lighter and thin out overnight with light lake effect possible for the South Shore. Temps bottom out in mid-20s to near 30. Clouds may hang around in the morning Saturday, then sunny conditions take over and temps trend warmer with mid-40s to near 50 in the Northland. A breezy west northwest wind will present elevated fire weather concerns. Fire risks will be even greater Sunday with drier air in place and a wind around 15 mph. By Sunday, highs are back in the 50s across the region.

The next chance for rain and possibly wintry mix would arrive Monday afternoon and linger into Tuesday. Next week looks to feature plenty of 50s and 60s with an east wind consistently keeping cooler conditions in place near Lake Superior.
