Brandon Weatherz: Warm today, windy tomorrow, and wet Wednesday

April 15: Warm today, windy tomorrow, wet Wednesday

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

The warm and dry stretch from the weekend is spilling into the workweek, leading to near critical fire weather for our Monday. Winds are lower than yesterday generally around 5-10 mph shifting from northwest in the morning to northeast this afternoon, at which time temps may drop near Lake Superior. Dry air with humidity as low as 18-28% will allow any fires that develop to spread rapidly. Highs will be in mid-50s to mid-60s. Skies start sunny, then cloud cover thicken from the west in the afternoon and evening along with a low chance for rain reaching across east central Minnesota.

Tonight is mostly cloudy with an east wind picking up. Lows stay mild in upper 30s to mid-40s. Tuesday will still feature 50s and 60s inland, but the Twin Ports and North Shore will be stuck in the 40s due to a strong east wind. Winds will be holding strength around 20-30 mph and gusting near 45 mph. Scattered showers approach the Head of Lake Superior from the southwest in the late afternoon and evening.

The moisture we’ve been waiting on is still in the forecast with the wettest period being Tuesday night and Wednesday. Waves of rain through this time should bring 0.75-1” for the Twin Ports, North Shore, down the I-35 corridor and east near Hayward. Amounts drop off going north near the Canadian border, but 0.25” is still expected here.

Thursday is drier with mostly cloudy skies, a breezy west wind, and highs in 40s and 50s. Friday is cooler and still breezy with highs staying in the 40s across the Northland. We gradually trend warmer through a sunny weekend.
