Similar to yesterday, the morning features mild temps in the50s and patchy fog. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for South St. Louis, Carlton, Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland Co. until 9 am. Be ready to use low beams and adjust speed as visibility could drop during your commute. Fog clears up by mid-morning and then another warm and sunny day takes shape. Near-surface wildfire smoke will continue to affect western parts of the Northland with an Air Quality Alert in effect for Itasca, Koochiching, and Cass Co. until 11 pm.

It’s shorts and t-shirt weather with highs in upper 70s to low 80s. A south wind should spread more of the warmth down the hill in the Twin Ports this time with the cool lake air being directed immediately along the shoreline of the North Shore. Shower and thunderstorm chances stay mostly north of the Iron Range near the Canadian border where a front remains stalled out.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with temperatures once again hovering in the 50s. Patchy fog may redevelop by Friday morning’s commute. Friday still sees highs in mid-70s for inland communities while an east wind returns to keep lakeside areas in the mid-60s. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the Arrowhead and into northwest Wisconsin.

Friday night into Saturday will be when cloudy skies take over and a strong east wind develops. The gusty lake wind will allow waves to build on Lake Superior and keep highs for shoreline communities cool in the low 60s both Saturday and Sunday. Highs inland will be in mid-60s to mid-70s Saturday and mid-60s to low 70s Sunday. We may still see periodic showers in the Twin Ports Friday night through Sunday night, but the widespread wet weather is on track to be west and southwest of the Duluth area. Areas of fog may inhibit the view for those taking in the fall colors, but mostly before 9 am both days.
