Sabrina Ullman: Windy Monday night, Tuesday
Tonight will be partly cloudy with overnight lows ranging from the single digits to the teens. A west wind will become southwesterly by morning but stay on the weaker side.
Monday will be mostly sunny with afternoon highs in the low 30s. A cold front will move through in the evening, bringing a chance of light snow for areas in northern Minnesota. The Arrowhead and portions of the South Shore stretching from Bayfield to the U.P. may get up to an inch of accumulation, but the rest of the area will pretty much just have flurries.
The bigger story with Monday’s cold front will be the strong winds. Wind direction will become northwesterly Monday night, and the wind speed will increase to 10-20 mph. Strong northwest winds will continue Tuesday, with gusts over 30 mph possible.
Tuesday will also be much cooler than it has been lately. Afternoon highs will be in the teens for areas along the Iron Range and north. The rest of the area will reach the 20s. Wind chill values will be in the single digits for most of the day.
Wednesday will be similar to Monday as we see some of the relatively warm weather return. Thursday’s highs will be in the 40s.
