Sabrina Ullman: Another round of snow starts tonight

A rain/snow mix has begun to enter Pine, Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer Counties, moving in from the southern portion of Minnesota. The precipitation type will be just snow within the next few hours.

Expected snowfall accumulations have gone down a bit. We will still see under two inches for the Iron Range and areas north while most of the Northland is in the 3-6″ range. We’re just more likely to be on the lower end of that range. The possibility of locally higher amounts is still included close to Lake Superior.

Due to the decrease in expected snow, the National Weather Service has removed the Winter Storm Watch and replaced it with a Winter Weather Advisory.

This advisory will be in effect for Pine, Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer Counties from 6 pm tonight until 3 pm Monday. For Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, and Carlton Counties as well as the southern portion of St. Louis and Lake Counties, the advisory will be in effect from 8 pm tonight until 6 pm Monday.

The timing for this round of snow is still on track, with snow expected to reach the Twin Ports by around 9 pm and slowly expanding north by 8 am Monday. For the most part, we will see the snow taper off in the late afternoon to evening hours. The South Shore will likely have lake-effect snow overnight Monday into early Tuesday morning.

Another round of snow is likely later this week, starting Wednesday or Thursday. Stay tuned for more updates on this- we could see this round lasting until the end of the week.
