Sabrina Ullman: Snow followed by frigid temps

January 10 forecast

Snow chances return this afternoon, lasting through Thursday.

Today will be cloudy with temperatures only increasing by a couple of degrees. Snow is possible towards the head of the lake midday, becoming widespread by the evening.

Snow will continue tonight through Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the North Shore of Lake County, and a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for southern St. Louis County as well as Carlton County. Both are in effect from noon today to 6 pm Thursday. This is due to lake-effect snow bringing higher accumulations from Duluth to Silver Bay.

Accumulations in the aforementioned area will be in the 3-6 inch range with localized higher amounts possible. Elsewhere, there will be a stretch of 2-4 inches towards the Iron Range and 1-3 inches in other areas.

Another round of snow could enter the region Friday afternoon. Frigid, windy conditions are likely Friday through the weekend.
