Sabrina Ullman: Cold front moving through

December 17 forecast

Tonight's snow comes with cooler weather.

Snow has started to enter the region and will continue moving eastward tonight. As this system moves through, snow squalls are possible. This would greatly reduce visibility and worsen road conditions quickly due to a higher snowfall rate.

Although travel will likely be impacted this evening, conditions will clear by morning. Accumulations will be mostly under an inch, with more likely for areas of the South Shore.

The cold front that is bringing this snow will also have gusty northwest winds continuing through the night. Overnight lows will be in the single digits for areas southwest of the Twin Ports.

Monday will be sunny with afternoon highs close to 20 degrees. Lingering lake-effect snow is likely for Iron and Gogebic Counties.

Any snow that falls will melt quickly as temperatures reach the 30s again starting Tuesday. A few locations south of Hayward may reach 40 degrees Wednesday, and afternoon highs will be close to 40 south of the Twin Ports by Friday.

There is a chance of rain Thursday night that may have freezing drizzle mix in. There is also a chance of precipitation on Christmas Eve. Right now, it is looking like it will be rain rather than snow, but it is a bit early to determine with certainty. Chances of a White Christmas are slim.

Tonight
