Brandon Weatherz: A quick round of snow to start the week

October 30: A quick round of snow to start the week

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather Team

Duluth officially picked up the first measurable snow of the season Sunday evening with the National Weather Service observing 0.2”. As Mother Nature allows us to gently ease into winter this year, this first round stayed off the roads. We do have the chance for widespread light accumulation with a quick moving system moving in from the northwest this afternoon and exiting to the southeast overnight. The Twin Ports and the Arrowhead should stay under an inch of accumulation. We look near and north of the Iron Range for 1-2”, as well as south of the Twin Ports for much of east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. The South Shore is where we hold the best chance for accumulation that could bring slick travel tonight into Tuesday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Iron County from 10 pm Monday until 12 pm Tuesday with local amounts of 2-5” possible. These South Shore communities could see snow linger into the early afternoon, then we settle into a dry stretch through Thursday.

Temperatures remain below average in the week ahead with the coldest conditions being what we start our Monday with. We head out the door with temps in teens and 20s and wind chills as low as single digits, which have been observed in Duluth. Highs stay in upper 20s to mid-30s. Lows tonight are mostly in the 20s thanks to clouds from the system bringing our quick round of snow. Tuesday is then mostly sunny with temps remaining 10 to 15 degrees below average in low to mid-30s. We’ll be a touch warmer Wednesday and Thursday with mid to upper 30s. By Friday, our next chance for a little rain and snow mix arrives.
