Brandon Weatherz: Much cooler by the weekend

A mild and generally cloudy stretch continues for now, but be ready for much cooler conditions to arrive by the weekend. Areas of fog improve through the morning, then patchy fog may return tonight into tomorrow morning and yet again tomorrow night into Thursday morning’s commute. Temperatures start off mostly in the 40s and top off ranging from upper 40s to upper 50s looking north to south with mid-50s in the Twin Ports. We look north from the Canadian border into the Arrowhead for scattered showers today, as well as south into northwest Wisconsin. That round may graze the Twin Ports in the afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible in Wisconsin with Butternut on the northern edge of potential for 1” hail.

Widespread rain moves east of the Northland overnight. We’ll look near the North Shore and the Head of Lake Superior for the chance to see light lake effect rain showers tonight and tomorrow as an east wind develops. Many areas stay in the 40s again tonight thanks to lingering clouds. We’ll look north toward the border for clearer skies and temps falling into the 30s. Highs Wednesday range from upper 40s to upper 50s looking north to south with low 50s in the Twin Ports.

Widespread rain builds back into the region Wednesday night with heavy rain and locally high amounts possible in northwest Wisconsin. Periods of showers from that system continue Thursday into Friday. We’ll look near and north of the Iron Range for snow to mix in Thursday night and Friday morning before we dry out. Both Saturday and Sunday then feature highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s with a low chance for snow showers. Plan for Halloween costumes to work with winter coats, hats, and gloves!
