Areas of light snow last night into early this morning have brought slippery stretches to much of the Northland. Light snow showers linger this morning, then widespread snow arrives from the southwest this afternoon bringing light accumulation in time for a slick evening commute. The heaviest snow and highest totals stay well to our south from this system, but travel toward the Twin Cities today will be impacted. The Metro is in a Winter Weather Advisory from noon today until 6 am tomorrow with 3-6” expected. Amounts fall moving north with a general 1-3” reaching from Brainerd to the Twin Ports to Two Harbors, and extending south and east across northwest Wisconsin. Amounts fall moving north, with up to an inch possible for the Iron Range.

Widespread snow exits to the east Friday morning. The breezy east wind will continue rather consistently today through Sunday with waves building on Lake Superior and periods of lake enhanced snow showers. Because of this, snow may linger from the Head of Lake Superior to the Bayfield Peninsula during the day Friday, then return to the North Shore Friday night.

A more widespread round of plowable snow arrives from the west Saturday and lingers through Sunday as a system emerging from North Dakota sweeps the region. This could impact travel over the weekend. As of now, a general 3-6” is expected across the Northland, and higher amounts may be possible. Snow from that round lingers along the South Shore Sunday night into Monday morning.
