Justin Liles: Thick fog tonight, record temps and rain

December 22nd: Thick Fog Overnight

Thick Fog Overnight

Here at WDIO, the storm track weather team likes to be generous over the holidays. This year thick fog is what we are offering. A dense fog advisory in play for all the region until 11am Saturday. Drive carefully, slow down and have the high beams on. Mostly cloudy conditions with fog and drizzle will persist tonight and into Saturday. Rainfall amounts will be minimal with this activity, but everything will be wet.

A stronger system will then impact the region for Sunday into Monday and beyond and bring widespread rain and rain/snow mix. Sunday looks to be a wet and rainy day. We could see amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Some areas of the region toward western Koochiching County may see some light snow Sunday into Monday. As much as 1-2” are possible. Winds will be light tonight and tomorrow before increasing for Sunday and Monday with gusts to 25 to 35 mph. The strongest gusts are expected on Monday.

Temperatures will continue to be warmer over the next week heading into the new year. We’ll likely be the warmest December on record before the month is over. It will also be one of the least snowy Decembers on record too. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s.
