Justin Liles: Bitter cold returns tonight

February 27th: Bitter Cold Tonight

Bitter Cold Tonight

Monday, we started the week with nearly all the Northland see temperatures in the 50s. A rather robust area of low pressure brought changes across the region today. First, snow and blowing snow fell up north of the Iron Range. Accumulating snow up to 5” were reported. Secondly, as the cold front came through winds have picked up out of the north. Finally, temperature saw a significant drop around the region. At one point today, International Falls had a 24-hour temperature difference of 50°F.

Tonight, the cold air takes over along with the gusty winds to create bitter wind chills Wednesday morning. A Wind Chill Advisory starts tonight at 10pm and goes until 10am Wednesday morning. The other weather feature tonight is lake effect snow along the South Shore. Parts of the U.P. of Michigan will likely see up to nearly 5” of snow near Ironwood. Slick AM travel is likely Wednesday morning for parts of the south shore. The good news is by the end of the week we are back into the low 50s.
