Brandon Weatherz: Heating back up this week

The week ahead will be warm with a few low chances for showers and thunderstorms. Today is mostly sunny with the tip of the Arrowhead being grazed by rain chances. Highs range from upper 70s to mid-80s. Wildfire smoke is responsible for hazy skies and an Air Quality Alert in effect for northern Minnesota until 3 pm Tuesday. Expect air quality to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Tuesday brings a southeast wind which will keep lakeside areas in the 70s, but highs inland tick into low to upper 80s. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible in north central Minnesota on Tuesday. We look along and north of a line from Aitkin to Cook for an isolated storm that may be severe. Non-severe thunderstorm chances reach across much of the rest of the Northland Tuesday night.
Wednesday will have a low chance of additional showers and thunderstorms. Should any form, east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin would be where an isolated risk for hail and damaging winds would be found. Highs on Wednesday range from mid-80s to low 90s, and a west wind will limit Lake Superior’s influence. Thursday will be another hot one with highs from low 80s to low 90s under mostly sunny skies. A cooling trend begins Friday with highs staying in the 70s over the weekend. There is currently a chance for showers both Saturday and Sunday.
