Brandon Weatherz: More freezing drizzle, fog, and warmth

January 25: More freezing drizzle, fog, and warmth

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather Team

Our Thursday begins icy due to freezing drizzle and freezing fog overnight, even leading to some school delays. Use extreme caution first on the front step and sidewalk, then on the roads. Allow plenty of stopping distance, avoid breaking suddenly, and be careful approaching curves, bridges, and over passes. On untreated roads, you may even have trouble climbing hills. Visibility is also a contender as areas of fog persist, so be sure to have the low beam headlights on. Icy conditions will be the worst through the commute hours, then temps rising above freezing by late morning will allow roads and sidewalks to turn wet.

Another icy period is possible tonight into tomorrow morning as temps once again dip just below freezing. Periods of freezing drizzle, wintry mix, and flurries will be found in the Northland through today and tonight. A light glaze of ice remains possible, but precipitation is not expected to accumulate beyond that. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for South St. Louis County, Carlton County, and Pine County until noon. Areas of fog may improve for a few hours in the afternoon, but more fog will be around this evening and into Friday morning.
