Brandon Weatherz: Staying gray and mild

January 23: Staying gray and mild

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather Team

We’re entering another stretch where I’ll be a broken record as each day’s weather is very similar to the day that preceded it. Instead of consistent cold like last week, the weather narrative we’ll be stuck with is gray and mild. Temperatures will be above average for overnight lows and daytime highs every day in the current forecast, and the extended forecast shows more warm winter days next week. All the while, we’ll have stubborn cloud cover. The dreary conditions will be exacerbated by areas of fog setting up tonight that may prove to be stubborn through the day Wednesday and linger Wednesday night. Freezing fog/mist and freezing drizzle may bring a light glaze of ice tonight to some tonight through Thursday morning.

Apart from this, there’s very little in the form of measurable precipitation in the forecast. Our Tuesday morning commute features slippery stretches observed near and north of the Iron Range and along the North Shore where light snow accumulation fell overnight. Additional snow today is limited to the North Shore as an east wind lingers, and it stays under an inch. Freezing drizzle and a light glaze may also bring slick travel to the North Shore today.

Temperatures start off mostly in the 20s today and top off in upper 20s to low 30s. We’ll hold in mid to upper 20s overnight, then Wednesday sees highs near and above freezing across the Northland in the Mid-30s. This is around 15° above daily average highs this time of year. Temperatures stay in this territory each day at least through the start of next week.
