Temperatures heading out the door Wednesday morning range from single digits above zero in Wisconsin to -15 in Ely. Slightly milder conditions than expected have allowed the Wind Chill Advisory to expire early for South St. Louis County (including Duluth) and Itasca County. The Advisory remains in effect for Central and North St. Louis County, Koochiching County, Lake County, and Cook County until 9 am. As Arctic air hangs around, expect additional Wind Chill Advisories in the Northland tonight, tomorrow night, and Friday night into Saturday morning before we finally but the cold behind us.

The lake effect snow machine for the tip of the Bayfield Peninsula will lose steam today, but lake effect clouds and light snow showers will linger near South Shore communities through tomorrow. A wind shift to northwest will direct accumulation of several inches east of the Bayfield Peninsula targeting Ashland, Iron, and Gogebic counties Thursday evening through Friday night. The weekend will feature a break from the snow here and a warming trend as a region. We’re on track to return to average temps on Sunday with highs near 20, and a stretch of temps on the warm side of average is expected next week.
