Expect a tricky morning commute due to a flash freeze, strong winds bringing poor visibility, and light snow accumulation. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon across northeast Minnesota. The Advisory lingers until 3 pm for the North Shore of Lake and Cook County and until 6 pm along Lake Superior’s South Shore.

Early morning temps were above freezing with rain still dominant in many areas. The transition from rain to snow envelops the Northland from west to east by mid-morning while temps fall below freezing and northwest winds gust up to 45 mph. We dry out from the west through the day with decreasing cloud cover. Snow accumulation still to come will be light in most areas, but a few localized inches are possible along parts of the South Shore due to terrain and lake enhancement.

High temps were set early this morning in the mid-30s for most areas. We fall to teens and 20s for the bulk of the day. Tonight will be chilly with lows ranging from near ten below zero north to near ten above for parts of the South Shore where lake effect clouds and light snow linger.

Highs stay mostly in the teens Thursday under mostly sunny skies. Clouds and light snow may persist along the South Shore. Temps fall to single digits and teens below zero Thursday night into Friday morning. A strong southwest wind kicks in Friday and begins a return of milder temps to the region for the weekend. A few snow showers are possible Sunday.
