Our Wednesday begins with areas of freezing drizzle, leading to ice being reported on some Northland roads. Allow time to drive slow and be mindful of slick conditions. We’ll continue to have periods of freezing drizzle today, tonight, and into tomorrow with more opportunities for a glaze of ice to bring slick travel. The precipitation will transition to light snow Thursday evening and overnight with light accumulation expected to stay generally less than an inch.

Temperatures rise into low to mid-30s today, stay mild overnight in mid-20s to near 30, then return to low to mid-30s tomorrow. Slightly cooler air moves in behind a passing cold front Thursday night, allowing Friday to begin in single digits and teens and top off in teens to mid-20s. Friday will be quiet for travel with a mix of clouds and sun. Saturday brings a return to the low 30s and a chance for light snow in the afternoon and overnight.

New Year’s Day will remain mild and mostly cloudy. A potential system would impact the Northland beginning Monday and lasting through Tuesday. Widespread snow accumulation is possible, but this system will include a wintry mix of precipitation types and the potential for freezing rain. A trend toward more rain in the mix would cut into accumulation potential.
