Prep Sports Extra: September 8th

Friday marked week two for WDIO’s Prep Sports Extra. Every week, WDIO Sports will have the best highlights and all the scores from our local high school games during Prep Sports Extra at 10:30 p.m.

For the first time, the South Ridge Panthers took the field as an 11-man football team, previously at the 9-man level. Moving up to Section 7A they played host to back-to-back defending section champions Deer River. Deer River would emerge the victors winning 48-12.

Prior to their game Duluth Denfeld held a renaming dedication ceremony for the former Public Schools Stadium, now known as the Walt Hunting Stadium and Marv Heikkinen Field. The Hunters would earn the big home win holding off Grand Rapids 24-21. This is Denfeld’s first 2-0 start in over a decade.
