Justin Liles: Blizzard conditions and ice tonight

March 25th: Winter storm continues

Winter storm continues

The Northlands large winter system continues to bring heavy snowfall to northeast and north-central Minnesota, with a wintry mix building into northwest Wisconsin. The heaviest additional snowfall is expected in northeast Minnesota tonight and into Tuesday morning. Freezing drizzle and/or rain beginning tonight and lasting into early Tuesday morning may bring around or less than a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation to the Interstate 35 corridor in Minnesota, including the Twin Ports, and across Douglas to Ashland Counties and into Burnett County in northwest Wisconsin.

A colder air mass lingering tonight over the Twin Ports will likely result in less of this ice accumulation. High winds off the lake will reduce visibilities this evening and Tuesday morning. Heavy snow along with winds will likely create traveling issues for the morning commute. Due to high winds overnight blizzard like conditions are possible along the Northshore.
