A front approaches the Northland from the south today and stalls out, lingering into the weekend. This will lead to a prolonged wet period with occasional showers and times of heavy rain. Today’s rain will feature scattered showers across the Arrowhead in the morning, then the wettest conditions through the afternoon should be just north of the Canadian border.

This evening and overnight is when wet conditions will envelop northeast Minnesota with the Twin Ports on the southern edge of potential for heavy rain. The Arrowhead keeps the focus for additional heavy rain on Friday. This has led to a Flood Watch being issued for Lake and Cook Counties from 7 p.m. Thursday through 10 p.m. Friday.

Friday afternoon and evening is when the wet conditions should begin to move across northwest Wisconsin with locally high amounts possible. Saturday and Sunday will feature lingering showers and thunderstorms, but coverage should be more isolated leading to less widespread accumulation.

Highs today range from mid-60s to mid-80s. The bulk of the warmth is found south of U.S. Hwy 2, which is where the warm front will be draped. The Twin Ports will top off near 70 as the front’s south wind struggles to completely overcome the lake breeze and lake influence.

Expect fog to develop tonight and impact the Friday morning commute. Friday’s highs range from upper 50s near the international border to low 60s in the Twin Ports and mid-70s for much of northwest Wisconsin.
