There’s still time to apply for a scholarship to help pay for your firefighter training. It’s the Ernest L. Butler, Jr. and Pamela Wutz Scholarship.

Duluth Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 101 created the scholarship in 2021 with the goal of introducing underrepresented community members to the fire service; as well as providing them full tuition to attend all required fire training at Lake Superior College.

Tuition cost for State Certification Firefighter I and II, Hazmat Operations, and CPAT examination will be provided for up to four recipients.

With this training completed, the recipients are able to apply for employment with the City of Duluth Fire Department.

They have a new hire that’s going through their probationary period that applied for the scholarship last year.

Applications are due Friday.
