With the beginning of hockey season under a month away, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association held their media day on Tuesday.

The day featured over two hours of WCHA teams and players talking, as well as the celebration of the 25th season as a conference.

Maura Crowell, the head coach of the University of Minnesota Duluth Women’s hockey team, shared her excitement about starting a new season with some fresh faces.

“First and foremost, I think you have to have good team leaders and I think we have some great captains,” said Crowell. “Mannon McMahon is our ‘C’ and we have Clara VanWieren and Nina Jobst Smith as our ‘As’ and really they’ve they’ve done a fantastic job of welcoming people, setting the standard.”

UMD opens their season on October 6th when they host Long Island University. Their WCHA opener is October 13th against the 2023 NCAA runners-up, Ohio State.
