Notching two straight 6-0 shutout wins in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) tournament last weekend the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) women’s soccer team earned back-to-back NCAA tournament berths.

This week the Yellowjackets practiced in snow and rain in preparation to make just their program’s second-ever national tournament appearance.

“I’m glad that we could pull it off again and that we could show that it wasn’t just a fluke win last year. We deserve to be here, our hard work has paid off,” senior midfielder Kenzie Oehlerking said.

“I always feel like when we can spend time together, spend an overnight together, it feels like the team gets closer,” head coach Allison DeGroot shared. “When you’re on a bus that long the team gets closer, so I think we’re just excited about the experience.”

Sitting 15-3-4 overall UWS kicks off round one in Dubuqe, Iowa facing unbeaten Loras (16-0-3), who is ranked 15th in the nation, Satuday at 1 p.m.

Yellowjacket men’s soccer (16-3-2) will also kickoff round one of their NCAA tournament Saturday battling number 10 North Central College (16-0-4) in Naperville, Illinois at 5:30 p.m.
