UWS men's hockey drops WIAC opener to UW-River Falls

Friday night the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s hockey team fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 2-1 in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener at Wessman Arena.

Max Collette scored first for River Falls in the first period to lead 1-0 heading into the second. The Falcons scored again as Alex Davis made it 2-0. Four minutes later Blake Holmes would break through for the Yellowjackets scoring to make it 2-1.

However no goals would come in the third period making 2-1 the final score in Superior. UWS goalie Kobe Grant made 25 saves, while the Falcons’ Dean Buchholz made 29 saves.

UWS (1-5) will look to rebound Saturday as they pay the University of Wisconsin-Stout a visit for another WIAC matchup. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. in Menomonie.
