From skating on ice at the DECC (Duluth Entertainment Convention Center) arena to making a difference on and off the ice is what University of Minnesota Duluth graduate Gabbie Hughes has been recognized for as she was named 2023 Hockey Humanitarian recipient on Friday at the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four awards ceremony.

A native of Lino Lakes, Minn., Hughes is the 28th honoree of the award dating back to 1996. She is the first-ever in any Bulldog hockey program, men’s or women’s, and the third student-athlete from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association to be selected for this award.

The award is presented annually to college hockey’s finest citizen, a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community through volunteering, leadership, and more. For more information about the award, visit
