UMD women move up to No. 7 in polls, men’s Ben Steeves earns 4th NCHC honor

Fresh off sweeping Bemidji State University with 6-0 then 5-1 wins to end their regular season the University of Minnesota (UMD) women’s hockey team has moved up one spot to number seven in the USCHO poll.

The Bulldogs now sit 23-8-3 heading into the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) playoffs.

Earning home ice advantage as the four seed UMD will host fifth seeded St. Cloud State University for the best-of-three quarterfinal series. Action begins Friday at 3 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.

On Monday UMD men’s hockey freshman Ben Steeves earned his fourth NCHC Rookie of the Week honor this season after helping the unranked Bulldogs split with number three Denver University.

He tallied three points including two goals, including the game-winner, in Saturday’s 6-4 win over the Pioneers.

UMD (13-16-1) hosts Miami University (Ohio) for their regular season home finale Friday and Saturday.
