University of Minnesota Duluth’s track and field graduate Cailee Peterson will be headed off to race in the NCAA Division II championships.

Cailee says she is looking forward to the competition.

“The track is different, it’s a banked track, and that’s something I haven’t raced on this year,” She said. “I’m excited, some of my best times have been on a banked track, so I think we’re just ready to roll.”

According to Peterson’s descriptions, a banked track helps runners to maintain their speed better with the turns, as an indoor track is small and has tight turns.

Peterson transferred to UMD, and the Director of Track/ Field and Cross Country, Karly Brautigam says Peterson has made a positive impact on the team and has bought so much to her teammates.

“Just getting to know her through her process of deciding to choose Duluth,” Brautigam says. “I really felt like she was going to be able to come in right away and be a leader for our team. And she’s done that.”
Brautigam says it’s hard to come onto a team as a seasoned vet, and already be in graduate school. “But she’s been so good to the team,” Brautigam added.

The 2023 championships will take place on Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
