UMD softball sweeps home opening doubleheader

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) softball team finally played in front of their fans after 33 games on the road, throwing the first pitch Friday against Winona State University.

Sidney Zavoral homered in the first inning, to make the score 2-0 UMD.

Still in the first the bases were loaded for Nicole Schmitt, before she recorded a grand slam.

UMD won game one 10-0 and followed up with a 6-5 win in game two, with a walk-off homer in extra innings from Kat Burkhardt.
