Day 2: UMD softball handles Winona State to advance in NSIC tournament

The No. 2 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) softball team took down No. 3 Winona State University 4-1 Thursday afternoon in round two of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) postseason tournament in Rochester.

The Bulldogs led 4-0 after the fourth inning and didn’t surrender a run until the seventh. UMD pitcher Lauren Dixon, after breaking the program strikeout record of 547 Wednesday, threw nine strikeouts against the Warriors.

UMD (38-11) advances to face No. 1 Augustana University in round three Friday. First pitch is now set for 11 a.m. after being moved up from Noon due to weather concerns.
