This weekend the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) softball team will host their final two doubleheader series of the regular season with Wayne State College Saturday then Augustana University Sunday.

It’s a pivotal four game stretch as the Bulldogs are currently tied for first in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) with Augustana, with both teams holding a 20-4 conference record.

“One game at a time is our mentality right now. We’d love to get to regionals but it all starts with finishing conference here. Then getting in the conference tournament, then the next step but not taking too many steps at once,” said senior pitcher Mady Stariha.

Additionally UMD is also in the hunt for the top spot in the Central Region in all of Division II. In the top ten list released Wednesday the Bulldogs landed eighth with a 34-9 overall record.

“Our pitchers have been working pretty much every day, our catchers too, so we’ve been really bearing down on our pitching and catching. Hitting wise we’ve just been trying to get good reps and swings that we want to see in the games,” concluded senior catcher Sidney Zavoral.

First pitches against Wayne State Saturday are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Malosky Stadium, with first pitches against Augustana Sunday at noon at 2 p.m.
