After three goals in the first period by the #17 UMD Men’s hockey team, the game seemed like it was heading into blowout territory. 40 minutes later, the UMD and Northern Michigan were headed into overtime at 5-5, which would end up being the final.

Ben Steeves, Luke Bast, and Kyle Bettens all netted goals in the first period, but within a six minute span in the second period, Northern Michigan had wiped the lead off the board and tallied three goals of their own.

Sitting at 3-3, Ben Steeves scored another goal, this time on the power play, but Northern Michigan would do the same in the third period to tie the game at 4-4.

At one point, thanks to Michael Mesic, Northern Michigan was up 5-4, but Anthony Menghini scored late in the third to send the game to overtime, where neither team would score.

UMD would eventually win the exhibition shootout, which they also did against Michigan Tech.

The Bulldogs can still grab their first win this weekend when they face Northern Michigan again at 7:07 at AMSOIL Arena.
