The UMD Men’s hockey team was finally able to grab their first win on Saturday, beating Northern Michigan 8-5.

Before people could even find their seats, Andre Ghantous found the back of the net, just 21 seconds into the game. Now, instead of a three goal lead, the Bulldogs would have to fight back in the first period.

Fight back they would. Ben Steeves scored the equalizer for the Bulldogs on the power play. Next up, Cole Spicer put the Northern Michigan goaltender in a blender, increasing their lead to 2-1.

Later in the first, Luke Loheit was in the right place at the right time, he increased the Bulldogs lead to 3-1 going into the first intermission.

The Bulldogs used the power play to their advantage four times in the game.

UMD is back in action on October 20th against Bemidji State.
