UMD men’s hockey falters in overtime to #17 Colorado College

UMD men’s hockey lost in overtime to #17 Colorado College on Saturday.

After a 1-0 lead in the first period, the UMD men’s hockey team looked primed to finish a weekend sweep against #17 Colorado College, but the Bulldogs fell in overtime, 3-2.

A short-handed goal at the end of the first period by Carter Loney put the Bulldogs up 1-0, and the Bulldogs defense was doing their job as well.

However, once the second period started, the Bulldogs lost control of the game on both ends. After allowing a goal over two minutes into the period, the Bulldogs net the goal for the 2-1 advantage, but with one second the end of the second period, the Tigers would strike once more with the equalizer.

Neither team scored in the third period, sending the game to its second overtime in the two games.

There, the Tigers would score, ending the Bulldogs hopes at a weekend sweep.

The Bulldogs are next in action on Friday against Western Michigan.
