This Saturday the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football team will kickoff their 10th Military Appreciation Day. Hosting Sioux Falls University at 2 p.m. the Bulldogs will first honor troops and their families with a ceremony at Malosky Stadium.

“We try to stress to our guys that military appreciation, this isn’t a social media plan for us. It’s truly to educate our team and educate our fans and educate our community on the true appreciation for the folks that have served for us. It’s probably our biggest event that happens on campus,” head coach Curt Wiese shared.

Staff Sergeant Robert Gutierrez Jr. is the coin toss honoree. He is an Air Force Cross recipient, one of just 24 enlisted airmen to receive the honor. It was for his “extraordinary heroism” against an armed enemy in Afghanistan in 2009.
