UMD baseball splits doubleheader against Wayne State

A tale of two games for the UMD baseball team on Saturday, as their defense led to a 4-3 victory in game one of a doubleheader against Wayne State, but an 11-3 loss in game two.

Gabe Richardson, Michael Gabbard, and Ethan Cole would all contribute to the Bulldogs game one win, with Cole hitting a bases clearing triple to give UMD a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs would be resilient in the end, striking out Wayne State with the tying run on base to snap a ten game losing streak and head into game two.

There, the Bulldogs would allow two early runs in the first inning, which would set the tone the rest of the game, as their defense wouldn’t translate into game two.

UMD is next in action on Wednesday against Bemidji State.
