Two Northlanders will be enshrined in the 2022 Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame next month.

Virginia’s Pat “Duffy” Dyer and the late Wally Akervik of Duluth will be inducted in a ceremony September 10th in Eagle River.

In a 40-year officiating career he served as Referee-In-Chief for the Superior Amateur Hockey Association and later for the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association. He also officiated in the NCAA.

Born in Duluth, Akervik played hockey for Duluth Central then the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). A UWS Masters alum, he helped form the concept of Wessman Arena. He later served as head coach of the Yellowjackets and UW-Eau Claire hockey teams, winning three NAIA national titles. He passed away in 1993.
