Practices are heating up and the first day of competitions are nearly here for fall prep sports.

With over 40 years of experience as an instructor Superior girls swim head coach Bill Punyko is anticipating the Lake Superior Conference as a whole to make a splash in 2023.

“Duluth East is not in the conference, but they’ve always been a powerhouse. Each team has an individual or group of kids that are fast,” Punyko explained. “Denfeld has some really good divers, Cloquet has had some good swimmers. Proctor is up and coming, they were young and new like three years ago, all those young and new kids are now pretty strong and they’ve got a big squad. Hibbing and Grand Rapids were added to this conference just last year, and they’re going to be the powerhouses that we’re going to be competing against. Rapids in particular.”

Prep girls swim meets in Wisconsin started last week and can begin in Minnesota as early as this Thursday, August 24.
