On Monday after school for the first time this year the Superior Spartans boy’s varsity tennis team held their first practice of the season.

“It’s always exciting to have the first day of a new season. It always feels a little bit surreal that a new season starts so it’s exciting. Always some uncertainty what the season will bring but we are looking forward to it,” said head coach Mark Winkle.

A challenge for this years seniors will be that it is only their 3rd year at the varsity level. As their freshman season was was cut short due to Covid and the season prior was canceled.

Still they are poised to bring a winning season to Superior in 2023.

“As a captain last year, I had an older person to look at and model my leadership after. So I hope to bring the team together and make it feel welcome for other players so that they can continue on and play throughout the years,” concluded senior Diedrick Nikoi.
