State Soccer: Cloquet-Carlton girls, CEC & Duluth Marshall boys fall in quarterfinals

Cloquet-Carlton girls, CEC & Duluth Marshall boys soccer fall in the state quarterfinals.

On Wednesday the Cloquet-Carlton girls and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys soccer teams fell in the Class AA state quarterfinals, while Duluth Marshall boys soccer fell in the Class A state quarterfinals.

At White Bear Lake, Cloquet-Carlton fell 4-2 to Winona ending their fifth straight state tournament in the first round. Kiley Issendorf and Natalia Hernandez scored for the Lumberjacks, who finish their season 12-3-4.

Later at White Bear Lake, the No. 3 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys were eliminated in a shootout by St. Cloud Tech winning 2-1. Joe Bailey scored the lone regulation goal for the Lumberjacks, with their keeper Walker Marquardt scoring their only goal in the shootout. CEC finishes their third straight state tournament season with a 15-3 record.

In Class A action in Irondale, Duluth Marshall fell to No. 1 undefeated St. Cloud Cathedral (20-0) 2-0. The Hilltoppers held Cathedral to a 0-0 game at halftime. The Hilltoppers, making their first state appearance since 2012, finish their season 13-4-2.

Esko girls soccer will kickoff their Class A quarterfinal Thursday at 7:30 p.m. playing St. Paul Academy in Irondale.
