On to the next chapter, Deer River football will step onto their fourth straight state stage on Friday night, October 11th. The Warriors have been unable to break past the quarterfinals in that span, the 11-0 warriors are focused on making this year the one they advance.

But first, they’ll have to get past Mahnomen/Waubun, a team that knocked them out of round one to win the state title in 2018.

“Well, we know how their offense works, they run the option. We know how we’re going to shut them down, offensively. We’re just going to do what we do. I’m sure we’re going to run the ball hard and hit them with some passes here and there, Senior Running Back Tygh Gullickson mentioned.

The warriors have power on both sides of the ball. Tallying six 40-plus points a game and holding opponents to one score or less eight times.

Jojo Thompson, Senior Offensive Tackle and Defensive End shared, “I feel like we’re a very physical team. We hit hard, and when we’re running the ball and just really inflicting our will on our opponent.”

Deer River will meet Mahnomen/Waubun in Brainerd on Friday night, October 11th, for a 7 pm kickoff.
