Section Boy’s Hockey Quarterfinals: Duluth East, Denfeld advance, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton falls

Tuesday the Duluth East and Duluth Denfeld boy’s hockey teams earned section quarterfinal wins, while Cloquet-Esko-Carlton saw their season come to an end.

In Section 7AA, top-seeded Duluth East shut out eighth seeded Blaine 5-0 at the Duluth Heritage Center. No. 4 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, in their last 7AA tournament before moving to 7A next season, fell to No. 5 Coon Rapids 6-3 at home.

Duluth East and Coon Rapids will battle in the semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m. at AMSOIL Arena.

No. 2 Andover beat No. 7 Duluth Marshall 11-2 and No. 3 Grand Rapids beat No. 6 Forest Lake 4-1. Andover and Grand Rapids will face-off in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.

In Section 7A, No. 3 Duluth Denfeld shut out No. 6 Greenway 7-0 in Duluth. They’ll face No. 2 Rock Ridge, who beat No. 7 International Falls 9-0, in the semifinals Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.

No. 1 Hermantown beat No. 8 North Shore 15-1 and No. 4 Hibbing/Chisholm held off No. 5 Proctor 2-0. Their semifinal is set for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
