Proctor/Hermantown Mirage fall in OT of Class A Semifinals

The Proctor/Hermantown Mirage fought their way to the semifinals earlier this week against Mankato East and went looking to continue their Class A State championship run.

They entered Friday’s game with their third trip to state in the past three seasons, coming up as runner’s up in 2022 and winning state in 2021. Their sights were set on bringing a Class A State championship trophy and title back home.

The Mirage opened up the game on Friday against Orono with a goal ten minutes into the first period by Reese Heitzman.

Goalie had traffic although the game as the Orono Spartan netted two unanswered goals in the second period, taking the lead 3 to 1 halfway through the period. Nya Sieger brought the Mirage back to within reach with her goal six minutes before the second period.

In the third period, with less than 30 second’s Izy Fairchild lifts the Mirage to a tie game sending them into overtime, where the Spartans scored four minutes in to win the game 4-3.

The Mirage gave it their all through everything on the ice since starting their state tournament run but fall in the semifinal game against the Orono Spartans, 4-3.

The Mirage will play the loser of the Warroad/South Saint Paul game on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. for third place.
