On Friday night Hurley and Ashland football kicked off in a potential bounce-back game for both squads.

The Oredockers looked to shake off a season-opener loss. While Hurley, who finished 6-and-5 last season, entered in search of the undefeated regular season they completed two years ago. The Northstars visited Ashland with their 31 season head coach Scott Erickson.

The Oredockers turned on the heat first with a 50-yard touchdown run by Andy Brandis. The Northstars answered back as quarterback Zane Colassaco dished one to Jack Caudill for the touchdown.

In the end, the Northstars walked away with the “W,” winning 28-14.

Friday also marked day one of 8-man action as Northwood/Solon Springs opened up a four-game home stand starting against Shell Lake.

The Evergreens got things started with a 60-yard touchdown run by Cade Lisson. Shell Lake took over the lead with touchdowns within a few minutes of each other by Brockton Naessen and Isaiah Mckelton. In the end, Northwoods/Solon Springs fell 72-40.

It’s zero week for 9-man teams in Minnesota. Carlton/Wrenshall kicked off their first varsity game in two years hosting Nevis. The Raptors played their hardest and their best against the Tigers but fell 77-0.
